Swimming pools are the best thing to happen to you – every summer! Whenever you’re feeling hot, there’s nothing that can compare to a dip in the pool to refresh you up. While swimming is fun, there are a number of risks associated with swimming in the pool or on the beach. If you do not follow the safety instructions, you could probably put your life at risk. Here are some tips that you can remember while enjoying a bath in the pool.
- Pool sides are made of concrete and can cause injury if you end up hitting your head to the surface. Swim carefully to avoid any collisions
- Look at the depth markers to know about how much water is there in the pool. This is an advice especially for the beginners. Depth markers will also help you when you plan to dive into the pool. It can be a problem if the water is too deep or too shallow. When diving in shallow water, you can hit your head at the surface, while in deep water, there’s always a risk of drowning
- Put your feet in the pool before you jump in. This will help you test the temperature of the water. Cold water can be a trouble as it increases your heart rate and blood pressure while you swim. Also, there are times when a certain amount of water goes inside your mouth while you are swimming. Cold water will affect you by slowing down the muscles and making it difficult for you to swim in the pool
- Swim only when there’s an adult to keep an eye on you. Even when you are confident of your swimming skills, there can be times when you falter. Remember to call for help whenever you are drowning or face any other problem. Lifeguards are there at public pools for your help
- Do not let your kids go to the pool unattended. You can put fences or gates around the pool to avoid any such incident. When visiting public pools, do not enter if the gates are closed. This will help you stay safe
- While you have fun swimming, do not forget to follow the rules to keep yourself and your friends safe
- Learn swimming before plunging into a pool without any supervision. You can hire a coach to train you to swim or ask any of your family members to train you
- When you are learning swimming, keep to the shallow part of the pool to avoid any mishaps. Take your parents along and keep some floatation devices in the pool for adverse situations. Make sure the floatation devices in your pool are Coast Guard approved
- Due to the presence of water around the swimming pool, the surface tends to get slippery. When around the pool, do not run as you might just slip on the floor and get hurt; you can even break a bone or two if you hurt yourself badly
Though it’s sometimes difficult to stay away from mishaps, these tips can help you stay safe and alarmed
